Ron Keel: Metal Cowboy

UPDATED NOVEMBER 2016

Ron Keel’s 35 year career in the entertainment business has taken him from the concrete jungle of arena rock to the dirt roads of country music. Now, in addition to touring with the Badlands House Band, the Metal Cowboy is rocking the airwaves Monday-Friday on KBAD 94.5 FM, the #1 rock station in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

After selling millions of records and touring the world as both a heavy metal screamer (KEEL, Steeler, and a brief encounter with Black Sabbath) and a country music artist (Ronnie Lee Keel, The Rat’lers, Country Superstars Show), Ron’s solo album “Metal Cowboy” combined both genres, establishing a style and a persona which captures the heart and personality of this self proclaimed rock n’ roll outlaw. That musical journey continues with the release of the brand new single “Dead Man Rockin’,” an anthemic affirmation of the hard working/hard partying attitude that drives Keel ever forward.

After nearly three years hosting the highly succesful “Streets Of Rock & Roll” rock-and-talk syndicated radio show, making the transition to being a daily rock jock on KBAD was the next step on Keel’s radio journey. He is on the air from 10:00 AM - 2:30 PM Central Time weekdays and combines the station’s diverse playlist with stories from the road and rock history, as well as interviews and extensive listener interaction on the Bad Phone.

Ron Keel’s legendary major label debut album “The Right To Rock” was produced by KISS’ Gene Simmons – Keel went on to notch three albums on Billboard’s Hot 100 as well as MTV and radio hits such as “The Right To Rock,” “Because The Night,” “Tears Of Fire,” “Somebody’s Waiting,” and “Rock & Roll Outlaw.”

As a songwriter, Ron has dozens of TV and film credits – major movies like “Men In Black II,” “Dolphin Tale,” “The Messengers” and many more – and his songs have been featured in hit TV shows like “Desperate Housewives,” “The Simpsons,” “X-Files,” “King Of The Hill,” and the Daytona 500 broadcast.

In addition to the release of his acclaimed solo album “Metal Cowboy,” his official autobiography “Even Keel: Life On The Streets Of Rock & Roll” was published in 2014. National Rock Review says this about it:

“Ultimately, this book is more a story of drive and persistence than ‘just’ a Sunset Strip rock book. It’s a lesson in survival. Of being humble and doing everything it takes to achieve what you love to do. You’ll buy the book for its nostalgia. You’ll finish it feeling you can do anything you set your mind to.”
